Oman and UAE to Build New OEG Submarine Cable


The telecommunications company Omantel of Oman and the second largest telecommunications company in the UAE, the company DU, have teamed up to build a new submarine cable called OEG, which will serve as a fast and unique connection between Oman and the United Arab Emirates.

The OEG Subsea Connection, established by the Omantel and DU companies, has succeeded in uniting Oman and the United Arab Emirates through a new international fiber optic cable from 275 kilometres. This submarine cable, known as the “Oman-United Arab Emirates Gateway”, aims to meet the changing needs of the market, improve speed, expand connectivity, offer a better customer experience and provide broader business services.

Previously, Oman and the United Arab Emirates were connected through land and submarine lines. With the introduction of the new OEG fiber optic cable system, a fast connection has been established between both countries. This partnership reaffirms the position of Omantel and DU as leaders in wholesale companies and supports the development of the region as a promising new global communications hub..

This submarine cable is the first regional submarine fiber optic cable between both countries. Connect two international data centers: Equinix MC1 in Barka, Oman and datamena DX1 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This submarine connection will become the main enabler of large-scale companies, content providers and international operators that are hosted in these data centers, enabling them to take advantage of better connectivity and increased capacity, and be able to connect directly to their points of presence (POP) in the region.
