Romania, Georgia and Azerbaijan Build Subsea Cable Together


Romania collaborates with Georgia and Azerbaijan in several large strategic projects, such as the construction of a submarine cable between the three countries.

It will connect the Caspian Sea region with the Black Sea and the EU. Besides, will expand the Romania-Georgia submarine fiber optic cable. This will further develop the digital connection between the EU, Georgia y Asia Central.

The Romanian Minister of Energy, Virgil Popescu, also expresses his country's support for the submarine power cable project with Azerbaijan and Georgia. The Minister also affirms the openness of Romania to increase SOCAR investments in the country. This includes investments in the field of electricity production, as well as in the fertilizer market. Virgil Popescu is on an official visit to Azerbaijan to participate in the 8th Ministerial Meeting of the Advisory Committee of the Southern Gas Corridor.

Cooperation between Romania and Azerbaijan

Trade between the two countries amounts to 215,5 million dollars in 2021. Of this figure, exports amounted to 120,5 million dollars and imports to 94,9 millions.

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, has announced that cooperation with Georgia is underway in the freight corridor by maritime transport Black Sea-Caspian Sea.
